Celebrating 60 years of life (almost!) and 40 years of friendship

Everybody knows how great it is to have a best friend – and I’ve had mine for over 40 years. Since this is our 60th birthday year (she’s already had hers and mine is coming up), that’s a significant portion of our lives that we have spent together! We met in 1975, doing a year-long outreach program in Camden, NJ with the Biblical Research & Teaching ministry we fellowship with. We lived a few streets apart, worked in the same office and spent our days off together.

We also attended seminary training in Emporia, KS together and lived (and worked) together in Orlando, FL (at EPCOT Center, while it was being built – what fun!). I was her Maid of Honor in 1979, she was my Maid of Honor (and her husband married my husband and me) in 1984. Our older daughters are both 28 and our younger kids (her boy and my girl) are both 25 this year. Seems like we do everything together!

So, what better way to celebrate 40 years of friendship than to spend a week together at the beautiful place where she currently works – Camp Gunnison in Gunnison, CO. We talked, we laughed, we shopped, we took photos, we talked and laughed some more! We enjoyed every moment (well, except the “me getting a cold” part!) and couldn’t believe how quickly it went.

I hope you all have a best friend like I do – and that you get to spend time together, too. Unfortunately, we now live far away from each other, so don’t see each other as often as we’d like, but we’re hopeful that in the future we will be closer together again. Until then, we’ll do phone calls & Zoom, I guess!
